Minecraft introduction

Minecraft is single player and multiplayer video game available on XBOX, Playstation and PC. It offers a survival campaign and multiplayer sandbox mode. This allows for any gamer with any style of play creative freedom or a specific objective they are required to achieve. Markus Person founded Mojang specification in order to act as a self run independent studio for the development of Minecraft. The original Minecraft was written in code by Markus Person and Jakob Posér.  

The game was launched on the 17th may 2009. With multiplayer being released on June 8th of the same year. Multiplayer allowed for team work and player interaction meaning the game was more enjoyable and likely to be talked about. Before being taken over by Microsoft who own XBOX. Minecraft is played using a block by block world with each block connecting face to face. Meaning anything can be built and created. This allows for creative freedom which has been the key to mojang’s success.

As Minecraft was released it gained a fanbase slowly but soon rocketed. BY June 2010 it had gained 20,000 players all paying the small 10 euros fee to play. By January of the next year it gained 10 million players. Then by July of the same year it gained 10 million players.

Mojang has also been extremely successful in marketing and advertising with large success in LEGO, Conventions and toys. On feb 15th 2012 Mojang joined up with lego o roles its first lego set. It also hosted it first MINE-CON Convention in 2013 in Florida and its own cosmetic costume range has been a great success. These marketing schemes all increase talk about the game and help build towards the games image. 

Minecraft is constantly being updated and modified with new materials, weapons, biomes, enemies and in game cosmetics. After Microsoft brought Minecraft regular updates have been constantly been added further intensifying the games depth and user creative freedom.Versions of the game can be brought over the internet via the Playstation network, Xbox arcade, IOS app store or their website.

On its release it won 5 awards including an innovation award, best debut game, best downloadable game, audience award and the semis McNally grand prize. By winning these awards Minecraft set its self up as a serious competitor in market.

Minecraft didn’t need to invest into major advertising such as big budget tv advert, billboards or poster to expose the game. Minecraft's fan base grew so quickly all it need was word of mouth to advertise the game. Minecraft’s fan base also used Youtube heavily to show off their creations and ensigns which also boosted mine crafts fan base drastically. This also exposed Minecraft to younger audience who are usually found on youtube roughly 8-14 meaning they could start selling toys and cloths that this audience would buy. This would also boost advertisement if thousands of kids are walking around with Minecraft tops on.

When the new ghostbusters was released the originally roles were flipped and women played the ghost busters and the desk lady was played by a man. He was portrayed to be very clumsy, gormless and stupid, unlike how men are usually presented in films. It was the same for the women who in the original film was represented by a quite and polite desk lady however now the women were represented by a team of strong and loud team of women. It was an attempt at breaking the stereotypes however the reboot pulled some bad reviews and didn't do as well as hoped at box office potentially suggesting that swapping the gender roles doesn't work as people could struggle to connect with he characters being portrayed in such alien ways.

A science fiction film would have a unnatural space themed setting and the props used would be    alien like and have a scientific meaning to them.

A romantic comedy would be set in a more natural location either a city or small town. Most of the props would provide a theme of love.]

A horror film would be set somewhere dark and mysterious to intensify the tension. Props would be aggressive and potentially lethal.

Slide 7 shows a lot of concentration and slight shock suggesting a storyline breakthrough has happened.

Slide 8 suggests a fight has broken out because of the blood and bandages and he has one due to the look of anticipation on his face.

Slide 9 shows power and control in a serious situation. The mans arms suggest he is in charge and the war time setting suggest its a serious time.

Slide 11 tells us there has been a potential argument as they are sat far away from each other and looking awkward

Slide 12 shows us there has been an axe thrown suggesting an attempted murder or escape

The pose of the men in slide 13 shows how they are ready for a fight with their weapons and serious faces.

Slide 14 shows a man above every one else showing power and dominance.

denotations and conotations work

Denotation- From this game poster I can tell that the game will involve fighting due to Batman's closed fists and fighting stance. Batman also has a dark metal suit on to protect him when fighting. The tank/car is in the background with a turret. The poster as a whole is very dark

Connotations- Batman's closed fists and fighting stance tell us that there will be a heavy focus of fighting in the game. His armour suggests he will be able to take damaged during the game suggesting the game has the potential to be hard. His armour is a dark black showing us how the game will have a stealth aspect. The two stealth and fight combinations allow for any style of gamer to play how they wish weather it be fighting or stealth.

The tank car in the background tells us that there will be another diferent style of play present in the game. A racing and car battle aspect to the game allows further styles of gameplay to be achieved further allowing the gamer to explore how they wish to play the game

The film poster is very dark suggesting the game will be set at night. The darkness also has a metaphorical aspect which portrays the games story line to be dark and mysterious.
